Where the bodies are buried, and why — redux
The plot thickens again at QLS Symposium 2020
So, I should have known that I was tempting fate by blogging on issues from beyond the grave, and it seems as though I have unleashed forces beyond human comprehension: the vagaries of travel schedules. It would appear that a couple of our presenters have mysteriously disappeared, like minor characters in an Agatha Christie novel…
That doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to find out everything a good lawyer needs to know about body disposal at QLS Symposium 2020; we have no end of expert gardeners on our books.
Seriously, body disposal is something solicitors do need to know about, although I am not speaking in the concrete shoes/midnight gardening sense. Darlene Skennar QC is an expert in wills and estates (and possibly gardening), and has worked her way through a body disposal or two, albeit from the bar table and not while leaning on a shovel. Ms Skennar will guide you through the complexities of appropriate disposal of human remains — unless, of course, something happens to her in the meantime…
Similarly, while one of our presenters on the topic of money laundering will be unavailable on an overseas trip — which I assure you is totally unrelated to the topic of the presentation — an illustrious panel (including Lincoln Crowley QC, Criminal Law Accredited Specialist Chelsea Emery, QLS Criminal Law Committee Chair and Criminal Law Accredited Specialist, Rebecca Fogerty, Criminal Law Accredited Specialist and Principal, Robertson O’Gorman Solicitors, Dan Rogers, and Chair of the CCC, Alan MacSporran QC) remains committed to a thorough discussion on this emerging and vexing topic.
Newly-minted QLS 2020 President and Personal Injury Accredited Specialist Luke Murphy, will be on hand to explain the effect of the Queensland Government’s proposed legislation to outlaw claim farming, the Motor Accident Insurance and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2019 (Qld). President Murphy will be joined by Michael Garbett, Chair of Queensland Law Society’s Accident Compensation/Tort Law Committee, and Neil Singleton from the Motor Accident Insurance Commission, Queensland Treasury and Trade.
In fact, Symposium 2020 has a smorgasbord of topics to delight the palettes of lawyers new and somewhat less than new. QLS has been fortunate enough to have many judges, Accredited Specialists, senior solicitors and QCs come on board (you can check out the list of presenters and their bios here) to deliver an innovative and informative program that is not-to-be missed.
Early bird registrations are now open and offer a significant discount — but they will close on 14 February, so if you are keen I urge you to get in quickly. After all, an invigorating discussion on body disposal is better than staying home and giving the catacomb…
