Quadrant Protocol: A Protocol for the Data Economy

The “quadrant” was one of the first instruments developed for use in celestial navigation. This deceptively simple tool allowed a person to determine their latitude by measuring the altitude of a heavenly body. First invented by the ancient Greeks, the quadrant has been used for dozens of different purposes over the past 2,000 years, from astronomers charting the stars, to engineers measuring the dimensions of buildings, to artillery officers aiming their guns. But most importantly, it has been used to help navigate uncharted waters.

Today, the big data space looms as the next frontier: chaotic and uncharted, but full of opportunity. Many sense the immense potential it holds; at the same time, many also fear entering its treacherous territory, which today is full of tampered and unstructured data. That is why we have built a new Quadrant: Quadrant Protocol.

The Big Data Boom

The booming possibilities of the Data Economy have given rise to a new generation of data-nauts waiting on the sidelines of this vast space. Growing at a current rate of around 16.3 zettabytes annually, worldwide data creation is projected to reach 163 zettabytes by 2025. This would already be a 1,600 percent jump compared with the 12 zettabytes from 2015 and a whopping 163,000 percent jump since 2005 and more will come.

Revenue for the big data industry worldwide is expected to almost triple by 2025, to around $90 billion from $35 billion in 2017. Businesses operating in this space need the tools to unleash the potential of their ideas.

With Quadrant Protocol, data producers will be able to stamp and securely store their verified data sets into the blockchain. With these trustable “Nurseries” to set the course, pioneers will use Quadrant Protocol to map disparate information into usable Data Constellations, finding the key that ties data sets together. Then, the Elons — innovators and visionaries — will use the map to identify complex Data Galaxies that can leverage this huge amount of verified information to solve real-world problems.

At Quadrant Protocol, we are building a tool that can become a standard blueprint for the data-sphere while preventing inauthentic data from spreading, offering appropriate incentives to data producers and offering increased access to startups, corporations and users at the same time.

Developed and improved by many different groups across time and geography, the quadrant is a powerful metaphor for global innovation. It helped to drive an era of scientific growth, discovery, connectivity, and prosperity that continues to this day. Now, we have built a new Quadrant to help guide the pioneers of the data space. We are excited to share the journey with you.
