Accessibility, shareability, and so much more.

Feed for the Stevens Institute of Technology Community

Starting April 15th and ending April 24th we rebuilt our entire application’s stack from scratch. This allowed us to create Quae with the bigger picture in mind. We realize that we were just adding feature over feature with no clear sense of what the platform was capable of. With this new update, we hope that anyone who goes onto Quae can get a clear understanding of what we’re all about.

The Home Page Redesign

Our goal was to increase accessibility and engagement by providing access to multiple communities.

The Feed

When you open up Quae for the first time, you will be viewing our Global Feed, which is intended to show you all of the polls, proposals, and ideas that every single Quae member has access to.

The Left Sidebar

On the left side of the application, you can begin creating posts, creating or joining communities, or taking a look at the communities you are already a part of. Favoriting gives you easy access to your most important communities.

The Right Sidebar

This is where you will be suggested communities to join based on what’s popular and based on what you’ve provided for your profile. Email domain-specific communities involved with workplaces and schools will be suggested to you after you add and verify the respective emails.

Previewing Communities

Right now, you are able to browse all public communities’ feeds, to get a sense of what Quae is accomplishing for others using the platform. If you’re interested in browsing one of our communities I highly recommend taking a look at Stevens which is available as a featured community on the right sidebar.

Creating Posts

Our goal was to make post creation draftable, collaborative, and much more user-friendly.

Creating a post using our Mobile Application (available on iOS and Android)

Drafting

All posts can be saved and edited later. This gives the writer the freedom to jot down some ideas and build a stronger argument for their proposal later on. As for polls, and initiatives, this offers much-needed flexibility when creating these types of posts.

Collaborating

If you are a leader of a sub-community, you may share the draft of your post with all other leaders of that sub-community. Collaboration can open the doors for much more intricate proposals, as certain members can be more focused on specific sections. A proposal written by various members can add a lot more perspective to the problem at hand.

Publishing

Once you are ready to share your post with your community, you can hit publish and it will be pushed to the feed!

Communities

Our goal was to make it much easier for any member to create a community for better representation, as well as create sub-communities for specific niches.

Visibility

Any member can now create public communities that can be joined and searched by any Quae member on our platform. Sharing a link with friends makes it much easier to get a community started.

Sub-Communities

Any member of the parent community can now create public or private sub-communities that can be suggested to parent community members.

Developer Notes

Building Quae again from the ground up allowed us to trim so much fat, it honestly became ridiculous. Keep in mind, that we learned how to develop software on this tech stack, so a lot of the code was mixed with old stuff and new stuff we were trying to introduce.

We said, “Let’s just get everything where it needs to be, and take out everything that’s extra.” And beta.quae.app was a great end result.

We hope you’re excited about everything new Quae has to offer. And along with making this application more accessible, we’re opening our doors to entirely new use-cases. If you’re interested in using our platform to bring democracy to your organization sent us a note at: info@quae.app

We’d love to hear from you!
