Should governments move online?

The future of governance is not what you think.

Quae has been a passion project of mine for almost two years. Working alongside my co-founder Brendan, I’ve learned a lot about developing software as well as working on a team.

I have a vision of what the future could be like using Quae, so I will make a Quae proposal about this. Available here.

Competitive Governance

Have you ever tried to move between states, or even between two nations?

The reason I ask this is that I believe that governments should operate with the risk of losing their members. And emigrating from a country can help achieve this. However, it is extremely difficult to do.

Should it be easier to do this?

It should definitely be easier to move between nations because otherwise there wouldn’t be a significant enough reason for nations to change their behavior.

Only in wartime is it made easier for refugees to emigrate from their country, but what about all of the other times people want to leave? For economic, religious, or any other reason, it is made extremely difficult for people to switch nations.

Quae

I believe in a future where governments operate mostly online. Quae would be the platform to interact with your government. Joining would be as simple as uploading documentation and holding video interviews with the nation’s respective immigration workers.

What are the benefits of moving online?

Well, with what I said about competitive governance before, switching governments would be as simple as clicking a few buttons. As that becomes easier, more people will become willing to do this.

Do you have a good grasp of what Competitive Governance is?

One thing that is holding us back is the idea that physical governments must exist due to physical security risks. There’s a reason why nations’ defense budgets are so high. It’s to “protect” us.

This budget also doesn’t make much sense. Nations have a sort of oligopoly when it comes to defense. They’re the only ones allowed to pursue defense, and they’re the ones providing the reason for defense.

Nations are taxing you promising to defend you from nations that are taxing their citizens to defend them from you. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Benefits

Today, nations are expected to provide a handful of security benefits to their citizens. These benefits include some type of healthcare, social security, and education. Education has already made huge strides in transitioning to online learning, however, healthcare and social security remind stagnant, in regard to the technology they use to operate.

With Quae all three of these benefits could be supported, operated, and hosted exclusively on our platform. Imagine getting to pick a nation’s social security benefits the same way you get to choose your current cable provider. The possibilities for representation are endless. With this type of platform, government services would improve astronomically with the threat that they might just lose you as a citizen, because you have the freedom to choose.

Metaverse

Bringing democracy online removes the obstacle of physical defense, almost entirely.

If all of our assets are stored on the blockchain, we don’t need the government to protect our property.

The only single thing that we would need a physical government to protect us from is the random violent attack that happens throughout the world, but even this could be privatized.

Keep in mind, when I mean privatized, I mean handled by the new governments that would be operating entirely online through the Quae platform.

Online governments would have the power to distribute defensive resources whenever necessary, and these would operate almost exactly as current military operations. There would be bases in place around the world and these officers would await governmental orders that would be delivered via blockchain secured messaging.

Security Risks

There are none.

All governmental communications would be secured by blockchain technology, which is more secure than government communications today.

Voting would also be conducted on the blockchain, once again making this process more secure online than how it is today.

The Platform

Quae needs to be easy enough to use so that any single person in the world, with access to Web 3.0 could join the new governmental network.

  1. Quae also needs to be dynamic enough so that any kind of government can be created. If you want a medieval fiefdom to exist, you could do it. If you wanted a totally new form of government designed, you could do it.
  2. Governments that already exist should be able to transition from physical to digital. From nations as large as the United States to smaller, struggling democracies, all should be able to ease their burdens by operating online.
  3. Smart contract technology will take care of all of the required security conditions.

We’re on the precipice of something great. With this kind of platform, the whole world will change. Problems we had with governments in the past would cease to exist. Our society will be able to redesign itself in shorter periods of time, while simultaneously making sure that every member is heard and recognized.

I’m excited to be a part of this movement and invite anyone else to join.
