Nowadays, mobile phones have become a part of people’s lives, although they can bring convenience to life and make boring times more colorful. Many young people use mobile phones, watch videos, social media, and play games when they go to the toilet. Although it can temporarily relieve bad emotions and relax the body and mind, it can damage the health of the body.

1. Dizziness

Playing with a mobile phone when going to the toilet will involuntarily prolong the time of squatting, causing a large amount of blood to flow to the lower limbs, and the relative lack of blood supply to the brain, which can easily lead to dizziness, brain swelling, and slow response.

2. Raise blood pressure

Patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases who use mobile phones when they go to the toilet will sharply increase their blood pressure, resulting in insufficient blood supply to the brain, resulting in acute myocardial infarction or stroke, and sudden death in severe cases. In patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, myocardial oxygen consumption increases during defecation, coupled with a sudden increase in blood pressure, it is easy to cause blood vessel rupture and bleeding, which is life-threatening.

Generally, people with weak constitution have poor vascular regulation ability, play mobile phones for a long time when going to the toilet, and are prone to transient cerebral ischemia when they suddenly stand up. It is easy to cause hypotension and syncope, and in severe cases, it can induce cerebrovascular accidents.

3. Dry eyes

Generally, the bathroom is dimly lit and not suitable for playing with mobile phones. Especially for children who are in the growth and development period, looking at electronic products at close range when going to the toilet will make the eyes continue to be in a high tension state, which will affect vision over time and lead to myopia.

The same is true for adults. Often staring at the electronic screen will reduce the number of blinks, which will promote the evaporation of tears on the surface of the eyeball, which cannot moisten the eyeball, resulting in dry eyes, and in severe cases, dry eye syndrome can be induced.

4. Hemorrhoids or constipation

Playing with mobile phones when going to the toilet will gradually develop bad defecation habits, causing the anal pad to move down or rectal varicose veins, which will lead to hemorrhoids over time.

In addition, defecation is equivalent to a muscle reflex, and the central nervous system is involved in the defecation process. Playing mobile phones can affect the nerves that control defecation conduction, thereby prolonging the defecation time and even causing habitual constipation.

5. Cervical spondylosis or lumbar spondylosis

When you go to the toilet, the upper body leans forward uncontrollably, which increases the pressure on the cervical spine, changes the flexion of the cervical spine, and easily leads to cervical disc herniation.

There is also the inability to support the lumbar spine when squatting to the toilet, forced to change the original curvature, and continue to increase the pressure on the intervertebral disc, which can lead to lumbar intervertebral disc herniation for a long time.

6. Degenerative disease

The weight of the knee joint is heavy, especially when squatting. The weight of the knee joint is about 3 to 6 times of its own body weight, which increases the force on the ligaments and the patella, which can induce degenerative diseases over time.

7. Venous thrombosis

Lower extremity muscle contraction can promote venous blood return. Playing mobile phones when going to the toilet keeps the muscles in a fixed state, reducing muscle contractions, slowing down the speed of venous blood return, which can easily lead to leg swelling and numbness. In severe cases, it can induce lower extremity venous thrombosis.

In particular, people over 40 years old, people with high blood pressure, high blood sugar (diabetes mellitus), hyperlipidemia, obesity, and people with damaged vascular endothelial cells should pay more attention.

Playing with your phone while on the toilet can do so much harm, so this bad habit should be actively corrected. When you go to the toilet, you should be attentive, and the time for each bowel movement should be controlled within 5 minutes, especially for patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and hemorrhoids. After each bowel movement, wipe it off with a soft tissue, and then wash the anus with warm water, which can improve local blood circulation and prevent hemorrhoids.
