More Than Meets The Eye

This morning, as I was checking the all-Quandoo news feed — we use a certain platform for in-company communication and collaboration — I saw a story that, all of a sudden, turned my day into more than just another day of work.

For those of you who don’t know, Quandoo operates in Western Europe, CEE, APAC and the Nordics, and is headquartered in Berlin, Germany. Our job descriptions mention it succinctly — as an additional information — that the company offers: “a dynamic and friendly working atmosphere in a successful international team”. According to a classic, brevity is the soul of wit, and this adage proves to be true in more cases than not. However — back to the part where my day transformed into something bigger — sometimes a succinct talk just doesn’t provide the credit deserved in full.

Everyone who works at Quandoo will know what I’m talking about if I say that there’s something special about this company. Something that I refer to as “the Quandoo vibe” (and I can feel it even from a distance!), and what I saw today in the news feed has made this vibe even more intense. I’m not at liberty to give names and the exact circumstances. Let’s just say that this was a poignant personal story of someone who’s been with Quandoo and who is thankful to Quandoo and to fellow team mates for the support in a very challenging personal situation. To be honest, this story made me cry. After blowing my nose and wiping my tears I realized that… there’s so much more than meets the eye about Quandoo than what we say in the job descriptions. There’s so much more that we offer, and it’s just that — even as a company — we are either shy (just like a kitty to whom I keep referring in my recent posts), or too busy transforming the world’s dining out experiences because — from what it looks — we don’t pay enough attention to sharing with the rest of the world how cool Quandoo is, both as a dinner reservation app and as a company to be with.

That’s why I keep championing the Q-Blog, the one that you are reading now. This blog is at its budding stage, because at the moment we are discussing the vision and figuring out the what’s, how’s and the who’s. I see Q-blog as a unique combo tool which:

1) facilitates the in-Quandoo’s culture of learning and knowledge sharing, based on the diversity of backgrounds and experiences;

2) tells what‘s more about Quandoo than meets the eye;

3) attracts both diners and tech professionals to Quandoo, via the means of 1) and 2)

These 3 objectives could be rendered into a cliched business lingo, but — as you might know by now — I prefer human speak. And, about this “something” that made my today larger than any other day: I’m uncertain how to put into words what I experienced. That’s why, rather than words, I’ll use this image:
