Get to know the team that powers the Quango engine.

My earliest memories are of being curled up in the shallow waves of the Pacific, where I spent hours playing Ariel from The Little Mermaid. But my parents moved us away from the West Coast — to Louisiana — when I was very young. After twenty years, I was done with the Deep South and ready to get as far away as I could. I felt drawn back to the Pacific, but didn’t want to live in California. My husband had always wanted to live in Portland — as a musician, many of his influences are from here — so I was down. We signed a lease on an apartment, sight unseen, and shoved everything we could — including 2 cats — into a Honda Civic coupe, then drove northwest and never looked back.

It would be a brisk, fall day. If I’m awake for breakfast, I’d like to go out so I don’t have to cook. Then I’d take a long walk around the neighborhood. Probably would stop in some of the shops and buy too many things. Back home, I’d read a book and spend some time with the plants. Maybe the husband and I would go to dinner with friends, have a few drinks, and check out some stars in the OBVIOUSLY clear Portland sky. We’d walk home and then stay up late watching a movie with the cats. There would be popcorn (the cats would not have any).

When it’s time to check out in the evenings, I’m reading a YA novel called The Black Witch by Laurie Forest — kinda Harry Potter meets The Hunger Games. That, and a few books on how to honor the changing of the seasons (I’ve been practicing feeling closer to the natural world around me). And I’m watching The Challenge: Final Reckoning because The Challenge is a gem of a TV show.

Some kinda pan-seared Cajun blackened chicken and roasted broccoli. Or fathead pizza.

Empathetic, wise, yearning.
