MS Degree in Computational Finance & Risk Management (CFRM)

The Master of Science in Computational Finance and Risk Management (MS-CFRM), housed within the Applied Math Department at University of Washington — Seattle, addresses the demand in the financial services profession for advanced skills in quantitative analytics and financial data science, along with modern risk management competencies.
For students and current professionals with strong mathematical and quantitative skills, the CFRM program provides exciting new opportunities for advancement in a new or current career pathway in the numerous fields in finance.
The CFRM program has a strong emphasis on professional development & career services. We provide year-round support, ranging from resume book & employers outreach to cover letters & mock interviews, for our MS students with their job search.
CFRM leads the field of quantitative finance and financial engineering programs in terms of flexibility: our domestic and international students, with or without prior finance industry experience, can attend full-time or part-time, on campus or online, completing the CFRM curriculum alongside students ranging from brand-new college grads to senior professionals.
This degree is offered in both a full-time and a flexible part-time schedule, as well as in two cohorts for students in the classroom and online. Nearly all courses are offered simultaneously to both audiences.

The Master’s degree requires a minimum of 42 credits:
- 26 credits of mandatory coursework
- 16 credits of elective coursework

For the 2024–2025 academic year, the fee rate is $1,165 per credit. The complete 42-credit MS costs $48,930 in course tuition. Several scholarships are available for program students and is evaluated along with the application process. Opportunities for funding through research or TA appointments are also possible for CFRM MS students.
