The Madden NFL rankings may seem like video game stats to many, but they actually provide valuable insights both for players in the real sports world and to esports players or even betters.

#1 Comparing players

It is generally known that Madden NFL rankings make it easy to compare players through a variety of different criteria. Let us say I decide to go online and compare three closely ranked players:

You can see the Throw Power (THP) rating being highest for Tyler Johnson although he is ranked 2 points lower overall. The whole different ranking system likely based on scouting and stats that Madden seems to use, have a variety of different criteria. These can be used to be fed into algorithms that analyze these sort of things.

#2 Player Improvement

Believe it or not, Madden NFL Rankings are hugely important to players. They strive to achieve higher sports-wise in hopes that their ranking goes up every year. Even though this is technically related to “video games” it is a huge performance indicator, and usually the higher the rating, the more popular many rookie players are in their sport.

If you look at the purple tab and click on one of the ratings such as AWR (Awareness), you can actually see whose ranked highest to lowest or lowest to highest. An interesting thing to note are things such as even though Richard Sherman is ranked a 92, he is still ranked higher than Stephon Gilmore (a 99) on awareness.
