Roblox is Filing for an IPO

Roblox is filing for an IPO with a placeholder listing of over $1 billion dollars, thus far for their offering. I was an original Roblox player, and didn’t even know it was still around until less than a year ago when I seen kids starting to obsessively mention it. The S-1 filing reveals both accelerated losses and accelerated growth. As for how I feel about Roblox, alot have changed with the platform. The chat features and how easy it is to add gamer tags is concerning. When I grew up, there were alot less things I had to worry about compared to this generation. I’m not sure at good faith I can say I’m a total fan.

They do have chat filters and parental controls, however considering COPPA laws, they do have a direct knowledge that children create accounts. In 2007, compliance was apparently achieved. The filters though seem to be a right step, but may raise other privacy or data concerns as well. I would be more of a fan of them finding a way to make Roblox interactive while removing the chat feature all together. Times are new compared to the old days.

As for the other features Roblox has, I’m quite a fan. I forgot about scripting and how even I used to use Roblox studio. They are getting children more involved in STEM.

As far as investing, more then likely I may sit in the sidelines. The valuation may be higher then expected, and I’m sort of having a penny flip. I may be buying some as a catalyst, but this is on my watchlist to say the least.
