THE Problem With Ethereum
As tens of thousands of us are eagerly anticipating a rocking ETHDenver 2025 next week, many are feeling that something’s amiss. There’s a sense that Ethereum isn’t moving as fast as Solana. That Ethereum has a governance problem. That the Ethereum price, down 35% since peaking 3+ years ago, is indicative of a faltering project. So what’s THE problem with Ethereum? In my view, the overwhelming percentage of doomsayers are largely focused on one main issue:
ETHEREUM IS NOT PERFECT
Do they have a governance problem? Yes. Who doesn’t? There’s one simple way to solve governance problems. Centralization. So is Solana a better investment than Ethereum? I asked Venice.ai. the TL;DR
“Ultimately, it’s up to individual investors to do their own research and make an informed decision based on their own analysis of the market trends and their investment goals”.
Make no mistake. I’m a Solana fan. I went to the first Breakpoint in Lisbon in 2021. I went to the last Breakpoint in Singapore. I’m impressed.
There are lots of alternatives to Ethereum. Tron is growing faster than Solana. And it’s more centralized.
But, after Bitcoin, I’m far more bullish on Ethereum than anything else, because the Ethereum community is, by a WIDE margin, the strongest community in crypto. That’s what I viscerally felt when I went to my first ETHDenver in 2019, and every ETHDenver after. Not to mention every ETHcc and Devcon. More of the best and the brightest are stiull coming to Ethereum, because to many, it’s about more than money. It’s about making the world a better place. A fairer place. In addition to the money. And the best, attract the best.
To the degree it’s about money, I ran a quick analysis to answer the question; has Ethereum or Solana created more market cap/month, since launch:
Turns out, Ethereum has always created more market cap per month than Solana. More than 2X per month in value has been created on Ethereum. So if you Zoom out, while not perfect, Ethereum is still the smart contract King, any way you slice it. Come to ETHDenver to find out for yourself!
And if you come to Denver, stop by CryptoMonday EThDenver, it’s going to rock too!
