Our World Is Changed forever.

No countries are fighting for land, or resources, or power right now. Duh! It’s a capitalistic society; we don’t need to wage wars, we just have to own shares of the private entities that are mining the resources, or manufacturing essentials, or just doing their marketing right. But, that is not what I am thinking about today.

Even though there is no country at war, no religious sect fighting for supremacy, and no mass racial uprising — we are still under curfew. We are all at home, and the whole world is following war protocols.

Something that the digital gurus have been evangelising for a decade now — creating a globally distributed digital team — is now a reality. Up until now, many sectors that were entirely dependent on their laptops continued to maintain an office space, paying rents, utilities, and serving meals to keep employees at the office. They worried about the dedication, efficiency, precedences, and performance for the whole team even when individual members worked remotely for an extended period.

Now we are all noticing — higher efficiency, better performance, and though there is still a clash on where the personal time begins, and professional one ends, that is something we will figure out as we go along. The freelancers are still figuring it out themselves. But, we are saving fuel, time, and also the annoyance of traffic every day. It is making life a little more bearable at some level. I will not be surprised if the history quote COVID ’19 as the cause for the impending digital revolution.

Also, it feels like I am working at a call centre — answering resolutions over phones, and arranging KTs while working on my assignments. I sometimes forget to take off the headphones now, I eat lunch, and breakfast at the desk, and within a month of lockdown, I broke my swirling chair.

I realise this lockdown is terrible for my posture, for my health, as I was doing no physical activities in the first few weeks. But as the definite dates became indefinite, I adjusted and started to take out time to workout every evening.

I think if I continue (fingers crossed), I’ll come out healthier on the other side of the lockdown.

Maybe we are at war, and this war will also leave behind skeletons like it’s ancestors, but, it will also bring about urgent changes, and redefine our priorities. It is a war we are fighting as a species, and the battles are raging on our grounds. We’ll win it that we are sure. But, this challenge to our egos was long due for our species.

By the time its over, we will have a better connection with our families, with ourselves, and each other. I’ve heard survivors often form stronger bonds.
