QuarkChain Bi-weekly Project Progress Report: Sep.5 — Sep.20

Welcome to the 14th QuarkChain Bi-weekly Report for the period from Sep. 5 to Sep. 20. For better communications with our community, we’ll be updating our progress bi-weekly.

1. Events

1.1. Transcend the Crypto Universe Meetup at Singapore

On Sep.18, 2018, Ting Du, CBO of QuarkChain, joined the meetup with BlockVC and Signum in Singapore. Ting introduced QuarkChain 2.0 — using blockchain sharding technology to build a flexible and scalable infrastructure that could incorporate state-of-the-art blockchain innovations, and satisfy needs from various industries.

1.2. Tech Startup Fest: BLOCKCHAIN at Google

On Sep.19th 2018, QuarkChain’s founder Qi Zhou, participated in Tech Startup Fest event held at Google headquarter. More than 700 people and enterprise registered and joined this blockchain event. Qi Zhou presented QuarkChain 2.0 and open source. After the event, Qi Zhou answered questions from participants and he would like to talk more in the future.

1.3. Upbit Developer Conference at Korea, Jeju Island

From September 12 to 14, QuarkChain has participated in UDC 2018. UDC is a conference held by Dunamoo, the company that is famous for its leading cryptocurrency exchange platform Upbit. QuarkChain Founder and CEO Qi Zhou spoke of scalability issues and how QuarkChain has overcome it with horizontal scalability technology. Also, QuarkChain has announced the platform will support Multi Native Token so that diverse tokens may be used as native tokens on QuarkChain. This may revolutionize the restrictions of non-mainnet tokens to have a faster, easier, and more flexible usage that only a mainnet native token may enjoy.

2. Development Progress

2.1. Open Source

On Sep. 17, 2018, we open sourced the python implementation of QuarkChain on GitHub .

The announcement with more details can be found here.

Major features included in the current implementation:

  • Cluster implementation allowing multiple nodes to work together as a single full node
  • State sharding dividing the global state onto independent processing and storage units allowing the network capacity to scale linearly by adding more shards
  • Cross-shard transaction allowing native token transfers among shard chains
  • Adding shards dynamically to the network
  • Support of different mining algorithms on different shards
  • P2P network allowing clusters to join and leave anytime
  • Fully compatible with Ethereum smart contract

2.2. Development Major Update

  • Improved the code to manage shards by grouping shard related objects into a shard class and let slave server managing a list of shards. (see #59 for more details)
  • Redesigned mechanism for creating genesis blocks so that the genesis block of a shard chain can be created at a certain root chain height. This makes it possible to adding new shard to the network as needed. (see #60 for more details)
  • Added and integrated mining hash functions (e.g. ethash) (see #34 for more details)
  • Implemented a faucet feature to allow users to get tokens automatically. Now available on testnet!
Faucet UI
  • Improved block propagation by forwarding blocks to peers immediately after checking the difficulty without fully processing the block. The block is put into a queue and will be removed once it has been added to the local chain. This change cut down the average block propagation latency during load test by 90%. (see #63 for more details)

3. New Face

Ms. Xin Zheng is one of the members of the QuarkChain marketing team. Before joining QuarkChain, XinZheng was worked for Bytedance as marketing manager. Before Bytedance, she worked in Siemens, Daimler and thus she has accumulated more than 6 years of work experience in sourcing and marketing. Xin obtained her bachelor degree and master degree in Business Management from Beihang University. Xin has deep interests in blockchain and token economics. After thoroughly researching the market, she decided to join in QuarkChain. Her capability and enthusiasm will assist QuarkChain’s construction and development.

4. Ecosystem Progress

4.1. NH I&S partnership

QuarkChain and NH Investment & Securities, №1 total amount of assets in Korea signed MOU for the development of a digital asset management service based on QuarkChain. NH I&S is managing around 220 Billion USD assets for their clients now.
