Our hearts are with the family of Daunte Wright, a life cut too short.

It is devastating that these episodes of violence, which disproportionately impact the Black community, continue to occur. We recognize that racism and systems built on discrimination have a negative impact on mental health.

Black adults are 20 percent more likely to report serious psychological distress than white adults. Black people experience PTSD at a higher rate than any other ethnic group in the United States. Black Americans reported more “not good” mental health days in the period after a police killing of an unarmed Black person.

We all have a responsibility to show up for each other and be empowered to combat racism wherever we may find it — for ourselves, for each other, and our communities as a whole.
