Quasar is excited to announce the release of its new litepaper detailing the introduction of Layered Staked Assets (LSAs).

LSAs are designed to combine staking and DeFi yields into a single, fungible asset, providing optimized single-asset returns without the loss of fungibility. LSAs thus become the only way to restake DeFi

Overview of LSAs

Layered Staked Assets (LSAs) offer users the benefit of DeFi with the stability of staking, and the use cases of spot ownership by bundling them into tokens like qsrETH, qsrBTC, qsrUSD.

This new primitive ensures users can achieve, at minimum, staking yields but, in most cases, outsized returns by using DeFi primitives. This way, we re-introduce fungibility into DeFi, making LSAs restakeable and multi-chain assets. IBC allows LSAs to leverage DeFi on any connected ecosystem, which vastly increases the access to yield sources and prepares Quasar for a multi-chain future.

Key Features of LSAs

  • LSAs (like qsrETH, qsrBTC, etc.) are single-asset primitives that earn, at the very least, staking yield and, at best, outsized returns in DeFi.
  • LSAs thus unite DeFi and Staking yields by abstracting away the search and active management of DeFi while also reintroducing fungibility (1 qsrETH = 1 ETH + yield)
  • LSAs represent the only primitive that allows users to restake DeFi — an important step in unifying DeFi and Staking Yields

Addressing DeFi Complexity and Fragmentation

The DeFi landscape has become increasingly complex and fragmented, requiring active management and interactions across multiple platforms to secure competitive yields. Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs) have helped but also contributed to fragmentation. LSAs address these issues by providing a unified, restakeable asset that simplifies the user experience.

The Innovative Solution: LSAs

LSAs enable users to benefit from both staking and DeFi yields within a single, fungible asset. Users can seamlessly swap or stake into LSAs without exposure to the underlying infrastructure and strategies. LSAs are named according to their main underlying assets, such as qsrBTC, qsrETH, and qsrTIA.

Key Benefits

  • Staking Yield or Higher: By rebalancing capital between LSTs and attractive yield destinations, LSAs provide at least staking yield and potentially higher DeFi yields.
  • Unified User Experience: A one-click interface simplifies staking and yield management, eliminating the need for active management.
  • Comprehensive Yield: Users benefit from multiple yield sources, including LP swap rewards, airdrops, incentives, and more.
  • Fungibility: LSAs ensure broad distribution and accessibility across diverse DeFi ecosystems, enhancing liquidity.
  • Restaking: LSAs reintroduce fungibility into DeFi, which makes it the only restakeable representation of DeFi
  • Pendle: As a yield-bearing token, LSAs are perfect for usage in DeFi 2.0
  • Interchain Operations: IBC-enabled LSAs allow for seamless interchain yield optimization.
  • Off-chain Computation: LSAs utilize off-chain computed strategies for enhanced agility and deployment efficiency.
