Getting Into Quantum Computing

Over the summer, I had the opportunity to take part in IBM’s Qiskit Global Summer school, which provided an amazing introduction to the world of quantum computing. Before July, I had little experience in the area. As a computer science student with experience in software development and cybersecurity, my knowledge of quantum mechanics was (and still is) minimal, and my knowledge of quantum computing was even less. But after only two weeks, I learned enough to become passionate in the subject and decided to pursue it further.

I am currently taking a graduate-level Quantum Computing course at my university. Not only will it delve into the theory of this subject, but it will also provide hands-on experience in coding with Qiskit, an open-source framework for quantum computing.

Qiskit was developed at IBM, and they have numerous resources on the subject. I recommend checking out their YouTube channel and Qiskit textbook for more information. I will be using their textbook as well as Nielsen’s and Chuang’s Quantum Computation and Quantum Information (the holy bible for quantum computing) and other readings to provide overviews of different quantum topics. I will also be walking through any coding projects I do for those more interested in the computational applications of quantum computing.

Quantum computing is a relatively new field, and the prospects are certainly exciting. I intend for this website to not only provide helpful tutorials and explanations to readers of any level, but to also strengthen my own knowledge of the topics discussed. I am far from an expert in the field, so any comments and suggestions would be highly appreciated.
