Excuses for captivity

Humans like order. They cling to things/beliefs/other Humans who no longer serve them. They build their own cages without ever noticing the door is open. They will twist themselves and bend over backward to retain the status quo.

Fear will immobilize us. Sometimes because any changes could make the situation worse — but also even changes that might make the world a better place. The process itself terrifies us.

And yet, evolution demands we pivot, morph, Become. Nature will not tolerate stagnation. She will bring us back to the edge of the cliff over and over again — until at last, we leap.

In yoga philosophy, patterns we repeat over and over are called samskaras. The grooves we have worn into our psyche, environment, very soul. To break free of a samskara takes tremendous consciousness. You must be mindful that the samskara exists in the first place and be willing to step out of the unconscious reflexes you’ve developed.

The excuses our minds will find to maintain this status quo defies imagination. Our psyche can be very creative when it’s trying to hold on to a comfort zone. Even if it’s a toxic one.
