For the last couple of days the sky here on the Great Plains of Turtle Island has turned brownish-gray. It is because of all the smoke from the fires burning in the Rocky Mountains to the west of us.

Yesterday in the hours preceding sunset you could look directly at the sun. Normally you cannot do that without suffering damage to your eyes. But it was just an orange ball in the sky thanks to all the smoke. It was eerily apocalyptic, other-worldly.

But it was not entirely uncommon. I have been in the shadow of massive smoke clouds before. This experience is not unheard of. It seems to be happening more frequently in recent years but I never took a tally of how often I’ve experienced this. But I don’t need that data to know that now I hardly ever go a summer without seeing the sun in this way.

Mother Gaia, like all living things, has an electromagnetic field — an aura if you want to call it that. Mother Gaia’s field can become clouded with pollution from what transpires in her being. Similarly, our own auras can become clouded by the fear and anxiety and anger and hate and guilt transpiring within our own being (often in reaction to and in conjunction to the collective field, or aura, of humankind).
