Today is astrological Lughnasadh, as the sun hits 15 degrees of the constellation of Leo. As with all solar alignments, this astrological cross-quarter moves every year. Lughnasadh, like other holydays in the wheel of the year, has been stamped upon our calendars as the 1st of August. This happened for convenience of celebration by multiple traditions, as well as with the Church’s usurpation of this alignment as Lammas.

We also reference the Lion’s Gate each year, on the 8th August. The 8:8, offering a numerological heads-up, lifts our gaze into the heavens. It gets our attention. It is also an arbitrary calendar designation, from a certain point of view. If we reference any of the world’s lunar calendars, does the 8:8 show up the same way? It does not. Does that make the cross-quarter any less sacred? It does not.

What if, in a New Earth, we honored our place in the cosmos with more transparency? What if we released the need for arbitrary place holders and flowed with our celestial neighbors as part of a grander design?

If that were the case, today, the 6th August, at approximately 7:04 mountain time, might feel different. Then again, it might not. We are where we are.

What if we could envision a new way of being, a way of rising up out of our shadow lessons…
