A woman’s heart
can unexpectedly
be carried away.
It’s a scary thing for those
that have locked themselves
up tight
due to past loves
that didn’t go so right.

On occasion someone gets in
because they somehow know
the combination.
Through astute listening
and fingertips
that felt for all the clicks
resulting in alignment
of the tumblers
and the bolts release.

The vaulted chambers now open
with all the jewels shining bright.
Like an array of bismuth colour
that fascinates the eye.

The woman holds her breath
in trust
because she has
to believe
that it will be kept safe
even on full display
and that this time
it will not be stolen away.

A thank you to Aaron Quist for the word “bismuth”.
