Time Forgives

A Never-Ending Poem Response — Forgiveness

I could take the credit
but it wasn’t me

Time forgave when I
couldn’t or wouldn't

I let it be, left it alone,
like the spider in the corner

Time did its passing,
sweeping dirt and webs away

One day, the spider was gone
and so was my hurt

I didn’t forgive the past
but the past faded like old jeans

Became comfortable, wearable,
and I could dance again

Maybe not with you
but with memories of you

No longer tearing at the seams,
clawing at my legs

I didn’t do the forgiving —
time forgave for me.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
