Despite our culture having no formal tradition for rites of passage and the challenge of liminality not being tied to a particular age group, the stage of liminality offers a way to talk about the path to legitimacy. Rather than just experiencing it as a rough patch in life, a door is opened to the idea that it is the path to reintegration. The stage of liminality doesn’t need to be forever. And it can have a purpose.
