Got an intimation u/s 143(1)(a) and don’t know what to do? There’s no reason to worry- This happens when your ITR is processed at Centralized Processing Center(CPC) in Bangalore- it is an automated process and as soon as a mismatch is detected between your Tax credit(Form 26AS) and your Income Tax return filing, an intimation is issued to the taxpayer. Do note that not all such intimations necessarily require an action on the taxpayer’s end, however in case of an intimation u/s 143(1)(a), you need to respond to the intimation within 30 days of receiving it.

How to respond to intimation u/s 143(1)(a) on the Income Tax portal

You can directly respond to this intimation through Income Tax portal, by logging in and going to “e-Proceedings”

  • Log in to your account on the portal
  • Got to e-Proceeding, click on e-Proceedings.
Click on e-Proceeding in top menu
You’ll see a page with list of intimations
  • Once you click on Adjustment u/s 143(1)(a), you’ll be taken to a page that looks like this -
Click on ‘Submit’ under Response
  • Click on Submit under Response.
  • On the next page you’ll have see the summary of the intimation and options(Agree, Partially agree, Disagree) which you’ll have to choose as a response.
  • Agree(for which you would need to revise you filing) is to be selected if you agree to pay taxes for the difference in figures indicated in the intimation.
  • Partial agree would mean you agree to pay partially for it again for which you would need to revise your filing to account for the partial part you don’t want to pay taxes for.
  • Choosing Disagree, you won’t pay taxes for the indicated difference and as the next step, you’ll provide accounts for the amounting difference in the portal itself.
  • Fill in the fields appropriately as required, accounting for the difference in income. Once you’ve done this, click the green ‘Submit’ button at the bottom of the page, and you’ll successfully submit response to your intimation.

In case you need more assistance, you can upload your intimation here and have us help you with the entire process.
