FAVORITE WRITERS FEATURE
A Spotlight on Another One of My Favorite Writers — Ira Robinson
Ten hand-picked stories to introduce you to a brilliant writer
Ira Robinson is one of my favorite writers on Medium. I am also honored to co-host the Suite 1984 fiction and humor publication, The Mayhem, with him. He is a prolific, quality writer and I can personally relate to a lot of his topics. I enjoy reading many of his personal stories and opinions and takes on different topics, including many topics that are contentious. He is a top writer in Ideas, Diversity, and This Happened to Me.
He’s not afraid to tell his truth and share his trauma and pain with all of his readers. He also gives us so much to take away for ourselves from reading his messages. I love the positive uplifting message he consistently leaves at the end of every story.
“Keep striving to “be the best you that you can be” at this moment. Remember, no matter who you are or what you’re going through, you are worthy of being loved. Don’t let anyone teach you anything different.” Ira Robinson
For this reason, he’s able to foster a close, personal relationship with many of his readers. He may be blind, but he sees more of the world than many people. It shows in his writing and it was truly hard to just pick ten stories. These are among my favorite stories but aren’t necessarily my top ten picks. I would recommend reading a lot more of his work once you get an introduction from this list here.
Quite literally, the first story listed here is the introduction to him and this story definitely isn’t just a boring introduction story. He gets right into it and has his own illustrations in the story to share with his audience.
In this story, he writes about being an introvert but having to live as an extrovert because of all of the years he’s had to work with the public in various jobs. I can totally relate to this one and this is a compelling read.
Here’s a story that was started after a comment was left about his family. As a member of the LGBTQI+ community, this story really resonated with me. This story is both a reaction and a background story of sorts. This is a phenomenal read.
Did I mention that Ira is one of the best horror fiction writers I’ve read, particularly on Medium? And this story has a cool audio dramatization with his cool, radio-ready voice to guide you through a very thrilling story. He has more fiction that you can check out only over at The Mayhem if you want to read more.
What an evil person to tell a great writer that they’re not cut out for writing and then proceed to destroy their typed work in a fire!! Then he also turns around and gives some very helpful tips for other writers who may face a similar situation. I’m not going to give any more details away. You’re going to have to read this one.
Being doxed sucks. Here is more helpful advice from Ira on how to avoid that.
Corporate America and toxic behavior pretty much go hand-in-hand. Here’s an opinion story about how companies trying to make work seem like a family but then limit every decision you make and that classification is really just for show and is so toxic. This one was a little funny too.
A story that is also the ultimate response to those who would say that writing about your trauma to earn money is dirty. Also writing about it truly is a way to slap your abusers without hitting them.
Oh, wow!! The topic of spousal abuse from the male victim's perspective. At the time, this was the beginning of the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial. Ira definitely isn’t afraid to tackle difficult, contentious, or controversial topics. He takes care to approach this story with his own personal experience and doesn’t take sides. I was really drawn in by this story.
I just noticed that the story I selected about toxic positivity would also relate to the story about the guy who told the Uvalde shooting victim’s dad to get over his child’s death just two weeks after the shooting. Both of those stories that Ira wrote are definitely worth the read. I’ve included the toxic positivity story here to check out.
Ira’s closing in on 1,000 followers in a short time and it’s easy to see why he’s building such a following early on. He has a way of connecting with people that I admire and that’s why I predict that he’ll continue to see increased and more rapid success here in the near future.
If you’ve enjoyed the collection of stories I’ve left on this list today. Leave a comment below and let me know your favorite Ira story and which one of these stories you most enjoyed.
I’m excited to continue doing this feature as a weekly recurring series only on QuickTalk.
