WRITING PROMPT RESPONSE
Imagine a World Where You Can’t Escape My Influence and Rule
Being a dictator would be fascinating and I’d have plenty I’d want to do and say
Thanks, Belcairn, for this fascinating and fun prompt.
So, you’re thinking, oh no, what would happen under this fishy-name sounded dictator? After all, Sturgill sounds a lot like Sturgeon. I bet he’ll mandate that fish become the national dish. I mean, I like seafood but I won’t go as far as telling you what to eat. If you want to eat fish, go ahead.
I’m not going to do much in the way of dictating your personal life, as long as you can respect others’ right to the same
I’ll probably be one of the most hands-off dictators you’ve ever heard of. I’m very much the type of person to let people do as they want and please as long as they’re not directly harming anyone. That’ll also come through in my policies.
I’ve already written what I’d attempt to accomplish as President of the United States (POTUS). You can actually read that story here. I’m tasked with expanding my policies on a global scale with this.
Making society better for the many, not just the few
I’m all about improving society and making the world a better place for everyone, not just a few people. Even if that means making a ton of ultra-rich people mad, that’s my ultimate goal. I would ensure to close every single loophole possible so that these individuals and companies would actually have to start contributing in a meaningful way to help fund actual global society.
The societal move away from social programs and education specifically in the United States would end effective immediately now that the whole world is involved. I would focus on ensuring that the programs already in place in many of the world’s developed nations make it to every corner of the globe with the help of a fair share of the ultra-rich’s taxes.
The rich would have no escape and the borders would be useless
How would they escape when there would no longer be offshore accounts in any country where they can hide their money for tax havens? I’m the global dictator. They would have a harder time hiding their ill-gotten gains. Will American conservatives be mad that they feel like our governments are helping other countries?
Too bad, our entire society is now without borders and I’m now the one global dictator to bring it all together. We all need that money to be spread better. I’d ensure a support system is in place with this funding to spread throughout the globe.
Plenty to eat and nobody will be able to discriminate or violate you because of your personal lifestyle
Are you hungry? Well, now, because of a global initiative, everyone will have enough to eat. We have the resources and the technology to feed the entire world many times over.
Do you want the government getting into your private business when it comes to health decisions and what you do and how you live? Well, this dictator would make sure that social issues and health decisions remain individual issues and a right that you can not have infringed.
Not even allowed to have politicians (cronies) talking about these issues anymore
So, that family next door has a problem because you’re gay? They can have that problem but they are not allowed to infringe on you or do anything against you.
Do you want to get an abortion? Well, you should be able to. Roe v Wade would have no reason to exist when it’s not up to the Courts to decide, only on the individual person. So women would definitely have much more autonomy over their own bodies.
So, there are people who don’t like it? It’s their right and opinion to be able to dislike it but it’s not their issue to deal with so they won’t have the right to say or do anything about it.
In my most forceful move yet, I will shut down any political or public official discussion about social issues. This will always stay on an individual level. I can ban the legislation and public discussion of such things because I’m a dictator after all.
Climate change and green energy
For climate change and the environment, definitely two of the most pressing issues of the day, I would ultra-regulate things to the point of attempting to reverse the damage already done. Don’t like it? Tough shit. I’m the dictator. I will ensure that green energy and environmental protections will be the mandate going forward.
The Green New Deal should’ve been passed a long time ago and we could’ve already shifted from polluting industries to sustainable, greener industries. Although the damage we’ve done to the planet might be too late, I’m still hopeful that my intervention will do something positive for the future.
War, uh, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing…
War? I mean war is very unavoidable but as a dictator, I will take every measure to further global diplomacy and help governments enact policies to better resolve conflicts without the need for war. Too much money is spent globally on war and fighting, including the black-market arms dealing.
I will put an end to all of that war profiteering globally and make it impossible to conduct shady dealings. That’ll also include the highest governmental level of powerful countries.
I’ll also give countries a mandate to destroy all of their nuclear weapons. If they decline to, I’ll go in there and take care of them myself. This also effectively ends the military-industrial complex in the United States.
Tearing down the power of large companies and corporations and thinking smaller-scale
I will also force multinational corporations and larger companies to scale down their production and business in line with eliminating pollution and damage to the planet. This will force people to look more locally and regionally when trading and selling products.
This will also allow the resource-rich continent of Africa to have access to its own resources instead of having other countries continue to take from them. They would then have the decision to continue to choose to trade with other places.
I also liked Belcairn’s idea of crafting your own resources and using and selling them. This idea of scaling back and only using and making what you need is a very pleasing concept. Maybe I could also incentivize this activity initially with some tax breaks for the less fortunate.
Peace and happiness all over the world and a strong dictator to ensure it
So, in conclusion, I’d dictate the world to a more peaceful, more widely prosperous, cleaner and safer, socially liberating planet. I’d give everyone everywhere a chance to live well and be able to not have to worry about not being able to afford to do anything that is necessary for their way of life.
A more productive, educated, and happier people. Like in those Scandinavian countries, Canada, and the Buddhist countries. I would just spread that happiness and prosperity further and away from the concentrated global few.
I’m going to tag a few more in this fun, global dictator prompt: Mike Butler, Bernice Puzon, Ira Robinson, KiKi Walter, Sally Prag, Scott Younkin, Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles, Christopher Robin, Preeti Ramachandran, Sofia Chen, Suzanne Pisano, JoAnn Ryan, Adrienne Beaumont 🇦🇺, Anne Bonfert, and Caren White.
If you didn’t see your name here and want to participate, feel free to. I just wanted to get a new tag chain for this started here to see what you all come up with.
Read Belcairn’s story below as it is quite brilliant and was the inspiration for this writing prompt.
