The Stock Photo That Raised a Million Questions
What I found when I went down an Unsplash rabbit hole.
I’m at my day job, minding my own business.
I’m looking for images for our latest marketing email on Unsplash and type in the search terms, “person typing”. Lo and behold, I come across the photo above, beaming amidst a sea of generic images.
It elicits a snort, a gasp, a giggle. And a single question rises to the forefront of my mind:
WHY does this photo exist???
Why was it taken in the first place? Why is this man staring at his computer screen in an empty boardroom? Why all the “hub”-bub about PornHub? How did this photo even make it to the Unsplash website?
After debating through a conundrum of endless scenarios, here are my theories:
1. PornHub Needs YOUR Input on Its Logo Design
The execs at PornHub fired their graphic designer due to budget constraints. There wasn’t enough titty in the nitty gritty details of Photoshop, so they turned to the public for ideas.
