With the digital revolution and the increased connectivity that has occurred in the Internet Age, a new approach to working has emerged. Commonly referred to as the “gig economy,” the rise in freelancing around the world is growing at an incredible pace.

In the US alone, the number of independent workers is expected to rise to 50% of the total workforce by 2020. What’s even more interesting is that many of these freelancers (47% of them in 2014, to be exact) are not resorting to this mode of employment out of necessity. Many are willingly rejecting traditional views on employment for other personal reasons; some want to escape inflexible 9–5 grinds as “normal” jobs are not as secure as they were in the past; and for some, freelancing offers a wider range of opportunities to find “side hustles” they enjoy and or feel passionate about.

Whatever their reasons, freelancers are growing and are in parallel to the emergence of the “creative class.” Architects, web designers, bloggers, and more are also using a wider range of online platforms and channels utilized in freelancing to find work and build extensive portfolios at a scale not possible before the Internet.

And in this new space between creativity and business, Quidli can readily operate. In the face of challenges, such as finding growth financing, entrepreneurs and early-stage startups see freelancers as a more viable option compared with on-boarding full-time workers. Through use of our protocol and the idea of equity-as-compensation, workers can receive a flexible form of payment that can potentially be more than just compensation for a “gig.”

By better aligning companies and all their stakeholders (workers, investors, freelancers, etc.), through being paid in flexible forms of equity, Quidli allows ventures and projects to focus on what should be everyone’s main purpose — adding value to the mission in their own unique way. This, in turn, can create a sense of purpose in their tasks, further incentivizing them to perform with a level of empathy and understanding similar to that of full-time employees.

Quidli is positioning itself to become a solution for companies and workers at any point in their respective life cycles. No matter a company’s needs or a worker’s level of interest, equity can be tokenized and deployed to meet all arrangements, from permanent to freelance, via our protocol. After all, we are building the future of work.
