We’re winding down for summer break. Liam and I do better with routine so I’m working on ideas to keep us loosely structured during break, while still leaving room for creativity and boredom.

Exploring Nature with Children

We love this year-round curriculum by Lynn Seddon and will continue following it throughout the summer weeks.

Laying Down the Rails

We’ll work on the habits of attention and obedience, using Laying Down the Rails for Children. Over the next several years, we’ll tackle other habits from the book.

Complete Unfinished Resources

We have letter printables, a book about classical music, and a telling time book that we’ve all enjoyed this school year and would like to finish up.

Happy Hymnody

I recently came across this free hymn of the month “club” and would like to keep up with it over the summer. We don’t sing many traditional hymns at church and I’d like for the boys to know some of the old, solid ones.

Learning to Read

Liam likes Bob Books and he recently finished the first set. We’ll work through the next set to sharpen his skills.

Kindermusik

We’ll attend a Kindermusik family class once a week during the summer.

Read Alouds

Last, but certainly not least, I have a list of 95 books to read together over the summer. (I think I have a book problem. 🙈) Here’s the list which is geared towards 5 year olds.

These will still leave us with plenty of time for popsicles, the kiddie pool, and lazy mornings. Happy (almost) summer!
