3 simple steps on how to improve your public speaking skills
Through the years that I’ve trying to start a company and many personal projects, I’ve been running through the same problems when trying to explain my ideas. And all my learning can be summarized in one simple lesson:
Be damn clear.
That’s all you need to know, you can go to the next post now.
Anyway, if you want three simple steps on how to improve the public speaking:
- Speak slower than you would ordinary do— This is the basis of everything. If you want to talk fast, you wouldn’t be fast enough to organize your thoughts and you will fall in the two next categories.
- Don´t cut your ideas— This is a very common mistake of people that have many ideas (proof that being “creative and being an “ideas-guy” it’s not something that good) interrumpting themselves. People with many thoughts that tend to be very enthusiastic, always want to talk fast
- Don´t dilute your last word— This one is not that bad, but changing this bad habit will improve a lot your public speaking without too much effort, so you should put a lot of focus on this. The thing is, when speaking infront of people, don’t let the last words of your phrase volume down. Don’t let those final words look like something that you’re not safe of.
Of course, there’s the big problem that you would be talking a bucket full of irrationalities and presenting a really bad product. There’s nothing really good you could do about. That’s a “content/product” problem but you should let it for another post.
This are just simple shortcuts to significantly improve your public speaking. Of course, the other big factor driven everything is the fear. That’ll be constant. That’ll only be taken away with practice.
There’s no shurt-cut or hack for fear.
