I’m a nobody, how do I become somebody of importance?

If the feeling of “I’m a nobody) is a recent turn of events, you may be able to work it out on your own by getting advice from places like Quora, reading a self-help book, journaling, or talking to friends.

If this has been going on for a long time, you should talk to a therapist.

If the first therapist you try doesn’t feel like a good fit, try another one.

There are also on-line options. Google the term “online therapist” and you’ll find many on-line providers, some of them starting out with a “free” plan.

The idea that you are “nobody” and others are “important” are simply constructs in your mind. Our culture us encourages things like idol and hero worship.

You’ll need to lose those constructs and discover a new way of perceiving yourself and your place in the world.

Here’s one way to get started.

Only compare yourself to yourself, not others.

When you compare yourself to others, you’re always going to come up short.

A better option is to compare yourself (today) to yourself (yesterday). When you do this you can monitor your progress and make continuous improvement.

Start with something specific and meaningful.

It may be a job skill (a better python coder).

Or a hobby (a better photographer).

Or personal improvement (run a 5K in 20 minutes)

Pick your goal and work toward it daily.

Not only will you feel better about yourself as you progress toward this goal, but it will train your mind to stop comparing yourself to others.

You can apply this approach to any part of your life.

This is a good first step to a more authentic and healthier perspective.
