What is the one thing that you do to regain your self confidence when you’ve had a bad experience?
First, forgive yourself. We’re often our own worst critics.
We also have a negativity bias. We magnify the bad experiences and discount the good ones. Here’s an article if you want to dig deeper. We all experience this bias to some degree. (Although, I think I could earn a gold medal.)
Second, recall past successes. Close your eyes and imagine those better times and experience the joy and confidence they brought.
Third, get busy with something that will require focus and concentration. This will help to avoid obsessing on the subject.
These work for me. But, if for whatever reason they don’t fit you — here is another option
Objectify the Scenario. Imagine a friend came to you with the same question — what would you advise?
When you think of the situation, problem and solution in this context (objectively), you’re more likely to come up with an answer that uniquely suits your personality and psyche.
And, you’re more likely to see your problem in an objective light, like a 3rd party observer (a witness) and you’re removing yourself from the immediacy of the emotional turmoil.
