We are on the final month of the competition now. 31 days, 744 hours until we present! It is both a daunting and comforting thing to know that we are so close to reaching the end of the competition.

FallCast is a wearable technology that we are developing as part of the C-Prize competition. We aim to use this wearable to improve predictions of when a person is likely to fall, providing an opportunity to intervene before an injury occurs.

Last week we attended the second bootcamp hosted by Callaghan Innovation over at the AUT Millennium facilities. It was nice to be able to sit back and take a big overarching view of what we have achieved to date and what we need to prioritise in this ‘crunch-time’ month. The feedback we got from the bootcamp was in stark contrast to the first. Instead of suggestions on what to improve and areas to consider we got affirmation for the design process and decisions we made.

We managed to create a smaller prototype that can fit inside the shoe but unfortunately it is a bit too large and can be felt by the user. During one of the tests with it there was a horrible crunch noise and now it’s in pieces. Funnily enough, you can’t feel it in the shoe anymore!

The next few weeks will have us prioritising our insole prototype, meeting with physio and podiatry specialists and trying out the Auckland University gait labs with all forms of walking, jumping and even dancing!

See you at the next update in two weeks!
