💌 Love of Allah from Surah Al Fatiha

“It is You we worship and You we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path”

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful Allah

Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

💝Indeed the love for Allah is sweetness for the soul, contentment of the heart, delight of the eyes and its coolness and joy.

Allah says:

وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَشَدُّ حُبًّا لِّلَّهِ

But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah. (2:165)

And Allah says:

قَالَ رَبِّ أَرِنِي أَنظُرْ إِلَيْكَ

[Moses] said: Lord, Show me, that I may look at You. (7:143)

Imagine how much Musa loved Allah and the feelings he had saying these words.

How can we ourselves develop the love of Allah?

📖 By contemplating on Surah Fatiha, the opener of the Qur’an.

I will be very brief. This is not a comprehensive article, but an invitation for you to develop your own reasons to love Allah as you read the Fatiha.

🌸1. Praise and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Love Allah because He is so much praiseworthy, and because He has done so much for you.

لاَ أُحْصِي ثَنَاءً عَلَيْكَ أَنْتَ كَمَا أَثْنَيْتَ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ
I cannot count Your praise. You are as you have praised Yourself. (Muslim: 486)

Love him because He is the Robb (Nourisher, Sustainer, Protector etc). He takes care of you, nurtures you, nourishes you, and protects you.

أَحِبُّوا اللَّهَ لِمَا يَغْذُوكُمْ مِنْ نِعَمِهِ
Love Allah for what He nourishes you with of His Blessing. (Tirmizi, 188, Hasan)

وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ
And when I am ill, then it is He who cures me. (26:80)

🌸2. The Compassionate, the Merciful

الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Love Him because of His intense and continuous mercy upon you. Love Him because He is Ar Rahman and Ar Roheem.

الرَّحْمَٰنُ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوَىٰ
The Compassionate above the Throne established. (20:5)

🌸3. Master of the Day of Recompense

مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ

Love Him because the day of resurrection is coming, and you hope your love will lead you to be saved on that day.

وَإِنَّ السَّاعَةَ لَآتِيَةٌ ۖ فَاصْفَحِ الصَّفْحَ الْجَمِيلَ

And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness. (Al Hijr,85)

🌸4. It is You we worship and You we ask for help.

إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ

Love Him because He is your god whom you worship and He is the One whose help you sought.

إِلَٰهِ النَّاسِ
The God of mankind (An Nas: 3)

وَاللَّهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَ
And Allah is the one sought for help against that which you describe! (Yusuf, 18)

🌸5. Guide us to the straight path -

اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ

Love Him because He is Al Hadi (the guide) to the straight path.

وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَهَادِ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ

And indeed is Allah the Guide of those who have believed to a straight path. (Al Hajj, 54)

🌸6. The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor.

صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ

Love him to be following the example of the righteous, pious and blessed, who passed on before us, who loved Allah and He loved them.

🌸7. Not of those who have evoked anger or of those who are lost.

غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ

Love him so you do not become of the ones upon whom is anger, and the lost and astray.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ حُبَّكَ وَحُبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّكَ وَالْعَمَلَ الَّذِي يُبَلِّغُنِي حُبَّكَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ حُبَّكَ أَحَبَّ إِلَىَّ مِنْ نَفْسِي وَأَهْلِي وَمِنَ الْمَاءِ الْبَارِدِ

🤲🏻O Allah, indeed, I ask You for Your love and the love of those who love You, and for the action that will cause me to attain Your love, O Allah, make Your love more beloved to me than myself, my family and cold water. (Tirmizi, 3490, Hasan — Darussalam)
