That Guy’s a Nutcase — Warning against Backbiting

“And do not spy or backbite each other.” (Quran)

I get this message from someone about someone.

That guy’s a nutcase, I say to myself about the person being criticized. However I don’t say anything at all. I remain silent.

Some people love to criticize others. They love to speak ill of others, especially behind their backs. Sometimes what they say is actually true.

But we need to avoid this. Allah the Exalted says:

وَلَا تَجَسَّسُوا وَلَا يَغْتَب بَّعْضُكُم بَعْضًا ۚ أَيُحِبُّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَن يَأْكُلَ لَحْمَ أَخِيهِ مَيْتًا فَكَرِهْتُمُوهُ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَوَّابٌ رَّحِيمٌ
And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Relenting and Merciful. (Quran, 49:12)

Backbiting is a big thing in Islam. Backbiting is when you mention something about someone that they wouldn’t like. Yes it is true but he wouldn’t like you to say it. But when you say it it’s backbiting.

Dont backbite. Guard your tongue and private parts and Jannah is guaranteed for you, inshallah.

Prophet ﷺ said:

مَنْ يَضْمَنْ لِي مَا بَيْنَ لَحْيَيْهِ وَمَا بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ أَضْمَنْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةَ ‏
Whoever can guarantee (the chastity of) what is between his two jaw-bones and what is between his two legs (i.e. his tongue and his private parts), I guarantee Paradise for him. (Bukhari, 6474)
