When a compliment uplifts you

Sometimes a praise can bring one from darkness to light

Praise be to Allah, who guides the hearts

اللَّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُخْرِجُهُم مِّنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ

Allah is the protective friend of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light.

يَهْدِي اللَّهُ لِنُورِهِ مَن يَشَاءُ

Allah guides to His light whom He wills.

وَاللَّهُ يَدْعُو إِلَىٰ دَارِ السَّلَامِ وَيَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ

And Allah invites to the Home of Peace and guides whom He wills to a straight path

I advise myself and you to fear Allah and be careful of Him. Allah says:

وَاتَّقُونِ يَا أُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ

And fear Me, O you of understanding (o people who are smart!).

I only wish for putting things right to the best of my ability.

إِنْ أُرِيدُ إِلَّا الْإِصْلَاحَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ ۚ وَمَا تَوْفِيقِي إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ ۚ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ أُنِيبُ

I only intend reform to the best of my ability. My success comes only through Allah. In Him I trust and to Him I turn.

Praising people too much, flattering them, or praising them which causes them to become proud or self amazed is definitely a very bad thing.

But sometimes there is a praise that lifts someone up, that comforts their heart, that lifts their spirits, that motivates and encourages them and takes them from darkness into light.

Sometimes we need to give such praise, make such compliments, appreciate and value the good in people.

May Allah guide us to the best of conduct, the finest of understanding, the most righteous of intentions and heart.

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to Ashaj Abdul Qais:

‏ إِنَّ فِيكَ خَصْلَتَيْنِ يُحِبُّهُمَا اللَّهُ الْحِلْمُ وَالأَنَاةُ

Indeed in you are two qualities beloved to Allah: forbearance and deliberateness. (Muslim, 17c)

And our final call is praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
