There are so many anime out there, so many in fact, that it’s no surprise that quite a few gems get hidden. These anime are not plastered all over the billboards, but they are definitely worth your time!

5. Great Teacher Onizuka

Onizuka is a 22-year-old ex-biker gang member who decides to become a teacher, but there is a small caveat: Onizuka is the type of guy who lays it all bare. This is the type of guy who lives life the way he wants it, without anyone censoring it. As a person, he is rude, unprofessional, and utterly shameless, which is what you expect from a former gang leader. Also, if you have not guessed already, he is not good at school subjects. This really emphasizes how much of a leap it is for him to try and become a great teacher.

However, when it comes right down to it, when the moments that matter Onizuka always pulls through. He can’t help but get involved with his students when they need help, not just the good students but those that don’t deserve it, and that is the majority of the class. Since he gets tasked with the mission to reform the most notorious class in the entire school.

Quriverse’s panel recommendation: Get ready for some slap-in-the-face life lessons!

4. Baccano

An old man and a young girl are investigating a series of strange and connected events which takes place between 1930–1932 and focuses on the events surrounding the hijacking of a transcontinental train called the Flying Pussyfoot.

The story is not told linearly, i.e., the events on board the train are shown in order, but it’ll quickly jump to some point before and after or even during the events on the train to show something that doesn’t seem to be related in any conceivable way, that later ties into something else we’ve seen and eventually weaves a brilliant web of interconnected happenings.

Quriverse’s panel recommendation: You will love the seemingly erratic storytelling, which is very specifically and skillfully crafted with an incredibly diverse and brilliant cast of characters.

3. Welcome to NHK

Saito is our main protagonist, who is, unfortunately, a university dropout and is going to enter his fourth year of being a hikikomori. He thinks that the reason behind his secluded life is some conspiracy led by the NHK.

One day, his solitary life turns when he meets Misaki Nakahara. This strange girl claims that she’ll be able to help Saito’s hikikomori problems and offers a contract that every day they would meet at a local park.

Quriverse’s panel recommendation: This anime sends a powerful message to young people who are afraid of today’s society. Introversion and depression are the most defining keys to becoming a Hikikomori, and this whole anime reflects the life choices of a hikikomori who tries to re-enter society.

2. Golden Kamuy

The story follows Saichi Sugimoto, more commonly known as the immortal Sugimoto, who is infamous for his relentless fighting style and unwavering strength to survive. He is on a mission to find the treasure’s location by gathering the scattered pieces of a map tattooed on a group of escaped prisoners.

Each character in the show is given enough screen time to flesh out their personalities without detracting from the main cast. The show’s brilliantly executed twists and turns give enough spice to the story to keep you on the edge of your seat. No one is morally right or good with just actions for each character. It’s every man for himself and needs to do anything he can to survive.

Quriverse’s panel recommendation: From the refreshing humor to the wholesome cooking sessions, you have everything to give this show a shot.

1. Ping Pong the Animation

Ping Pong, the animation, is set out in a local Japanese town and revolves around two best friends Peco and Smile. Peco, the trouble-making jokester of the duo, is a poster child for the local ping pong club and proudly claims that he will be the best in the world, but on the flip side, we have Smile, who is shy and reserved and quietly follows in Peco’s footsteps while never letting his own ability dampen the brightness of his friend.

Ping Pong the Animation is an extremely well-made anime with a different yet appealing art style and storyline, unlike the usual sports anime. It is worth a binge and is a perfect experience for viewers trying to experience various forms of Anime. It is beautifully made with amazing Character Development as well as an intriguing storyline that backs each pivotal character.

Quriverse’s panel recommendation: This is less of a sports anime and more of a series that draws out powerful goosebumps-inducing emotions, and oh, the soundtrack is just amazing! Go watch the show without worrying about the art style.
