Europe needs a strong ePrivacy Regulation
Qwant believes that an ambitious data protection framework will raise trust in the European digital ecosystem, benefiting both consumers and businesses. This is why this Monday, we and nearly 40 other businesses and organizations sent a joint letter to the EU Member States to urge them to find an agreement on the ePrivacy Regulation.
As the Ministers will be discussing the topic this week, we want to recall that the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was an important but non sufficient step for the protection of personal data. The ePrivacy Regulation is another important step to make for better data protection.
The European Union must remain a world leader for the protection of the confidentiality of communications. The ePrivacy Regulation, which will be complementary to the GDPR, is an opportunity to define global progressive standards that will help ensure the respect for the Internet users’s privacy, for instance by providing that Web browsers should deny by default the installation of intrusive tracking technologies.
