R Planet Community Spaces!

Future Sight Echo
R Planet Together

--

Web3 is all about community. This week, I’m delighted to announce that we are starting some Community Spaces as part of our grassroots efforts in the R Planet community in bringing people together to build a better world through Web3.

To start, there will be two sessions held each week on Twitter:
Mondays @ 7pm EST / Wednesdays @ 8pm GMT

This allows us to cover two different timezones and each of the weekly sessions will have a different focus that follows the interests and expertise of the main hosts.

HawaiiMarineLife (see our first #Web3forGood profile) will be hosting the Monday sessions around issues of Sustainability, News and Community. Wednesday sessions will be hosted by myself and are focusing on Web3, Culture and how we can create a positive Future.

Web3 needs to mature and grow into its potential. We’ve seen a lot of exciting things over the past few years as the space emerged and suddenly caught the interest of millions of people — but unfortunately we also quickly found out how it became a haven for cash grabs, scammers, soft rugs and a whole host of predatory and deceitful practices. But that doesn’t mean that we’ve seen everything that Web3 has to offer, not by a long shot. We are now starting to understand how to use these decentralised, digital networks to build innovative communities — and through that participate in the creation of new forms of culture.

Culture is a process of shared understanding. Through the ideas, symbols, materials and experiences we build and take part in, we find new ways to explore the human condition and our role both in wider society and the cosmos as a whole. For many of us, culture is something that we consume and are influenced by; but it can be difficult to take part in the creation of. Web3 opens up the doors of cultural creation and allows all of us to participate. Allows all of us to take part in forming what it looks like to be productive, fruitful and fulfilled both at individual and collective levels.

The Future is a concept that talks to us of possibility. It is also something that, particularly at the current moment, feels uncertain and with as much potential for disaster as it has hope. Given the rapid transitional moment that we are living through, where our technological progress comes to define the direction that humanity will take into the future, it is more important than ever that we are aware of and engaged with the changes that are taking place.

With these three topics in mind, the Community Space for R Planet that I will be hosting every Wednesday will act as an open and honest place to discuss how these things impact us — but even more importantly, how we can contribute to them in a meaningful way.

See you there!
