The Sanctuaire — Phase 1 (groups 1 and 2)

The board of Phase 1 of a seven phase condo complex in Montreal had started to evaluate ways to have electric vehicle chargers installed back in early 2019. The project finally started in October 2020. Read the details of a similar project done in Phase 4 of the complex here.

Charging Solution

Since the parking spaces are at the same level as the electrical room, the Electric Vehicle Energy Management System was chosen as the charging solution.

Installation Approach

The work was carried out according to the Partial Global Approach as the infrastructure installed was intended for the present installations as well as the future ones. Everything has been organized in anticipation of future installations (installation of cantrusts, distribution boxes, necessary cabling).

Set Up

An installation group was put together in October 2020, made up of 20 tenants. The board then contacted an electrical contractor to obtain a quote for the installation of chargers for these tenants. Finally, the installations were divided into two groups in order to take full advantage of the rebate offered by the Government of Quebec: one made up of 9 and the other of 11 tenants.

The building is more long than large and the two electrical rooms are located from one end to the other of the parking spaces, thus complicating the connection of the infrastructures. But the main challenge for this complex was the lack of space in the electrical rooms. The walls of these small rooms were at full capacity and the pipes and wires running through the ceiling prevented the installation of DCCs. All EVEMS have therefore been installed outside the electrical rooms: on the walls of the parking lot, in the garbage rooms as well as in the tenants’ lockers.

Installation

The work for both installation groups was completed between December 2020 and May 2021; a total of 20 FLO G5 chargers and 20 DCC-9–40A were installed.
