Fans welcomed Richard Hatch (aka the original Apollo and Tom Zarek in the remake) on stage at the latest SDCC and he finally gave us details about Battlestar’s future.

After changing hands for many years, the film apparently found a home within Universal. Better than that — Westworld writer Lisa Joy, X-Men heavy hitter Bryan Singer and some more “Academy Award-winning producers” like Scott Stuber or Dylan Clark of Bluegrass are obviously all boarding the Galactica.

It’s been a fight with ‘The Lords of Kobol’ for quite some time, but rumors have finally been confirmed on Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence circling a deal to direct the movie.

Singer was previously attached to direct (in one of the many previous iterations), and according to Hatch, his vision would have focused more on the classic Battlestar. Joy’s vision on the other hand will likely be more futuristic, much like both the 2004 re-imagined series and to some degree, Westworld.

Unfortunately, it’s still unclear whether the original cast would return, but Hatch referred to Edward James Olmos as being enthusiastic about more Battlestar. Others would also be willing to come back if the story-line calls for it.

Hatch spoke about Olmos showing love for the franchise, stating that:

“His love and passion for Battlestar never wavers. We’ve both been in the business long enough to know the difference between truly brilliant and just okay.”

Hatch also reiterated on stage that there could and should always be more Battlestar, since its vast universe allows for an infinite number of complex stories:

“It’s one of the greatest stories of all time. It’s humans whose world has been destroyed, looking for a new homeland. There are a million stories you can tell.”
