Thanksgiving morning, while mashing sweet potatoes and chopping vegetables, I asked Siri to play my most recent musical theater obsession so the kids and I could all sing along while we cooked. My oldest child grumbled. ‘Seriously Mom, again?’ ‘Again!’ I cheered, while launching dramatically into the opening number of ‘Wicked.’

It has been so much fun to jump on the Wicked bandwagon in the last few weeks. It is a pleasure to have something whimsical and campy to enjoy when the world around us can be so heavy and dark. Even our 4 year old will launch into an impassioned rendition of Defying Gravity if given the opportunity.

When Milo learned that Wicked was actually based on another movie called The Wizard of Oz, his mind was blown. So naturally, this week we took the opportunity to cuddle up and watch Judy Garland and Margaret Hamilton define these characters for generations to come.
