Lot number detection

An application for finding the lot number on a box with computer vision — for Kind en Gezin.

Finding the lot number on a medicine box and typing it manually into a computer system is a tedious job. Therefore Kind & Gezin wondered if that task could be automated. They wanted a small web application that allows employees to take a photo of a medicine box and automatically finds the lot number in the picture with the assistance of AI. This lot number detection is a combination of computer vision and machine learning. Computer vision for transforming an image to text. Because the lot numbers can have different formats, machine learning is necessary for extracting the lot number out of all the text found. This project was built as a prototype for internal testing at Kind & Gezin.
