Putting Racial Equity in New Year’s Resolutions

In the first week of 2017, we put a call out to our members, partners and others on Twitter, asking for their racial equity and inclusion #NewYearsResolutions.

Two days and 46 contributors later, nearly 140,000 pairs of eyes had seen the results of our New Year’s call to action and had a window into the good work that those in the Living Cities’ network are doing and their commitments towards correcting racial injustice.

Organizations working in everything from income inequality to criminal justice made promises to advance inclusion and fairness in cities across the country.

Individuals, too, shared their personal commitments with our followers.

Even our CEO Ben Hecht is doing his part, on Twitter and in our offices every day.

With our ongoing Closing the Gaps campaign, we will continue to check in with those in our network and beyond and assist them in their racial equity journey with tools, resources and other supports. It’s a long road, and one that won’t be passed overnight, but we can start to take the first steps — all we need is resolve and each other.
