The Quicksilver Hampton Court Half Marathon borders the river-side grounds of the magnificent Hampton Court Palace, and with just over 8 months to go until their next event (23rd February 2020), and the 7th in their series, we spoke to the organisers about the highly popular race.

You have 96 reviews averaging 4.6/5.0 for your 2019 event, what do you put this level of response from your runners down to?

We have now run the event for six years with continual improvements to ensure we deliver a first class race which shows from the 2019 reviews. We are passionate runners so we know how important the race day experience is.

What’s the main praise the event receives?

Our amazing marshals is a big one! A common factor in a lot of our feedback is how friendly and motivating our marshals and volunteers are. Many of our volunteers are runners themselves, and so they know how important a few words of encouragement are and a cheery smile!

The second element for most praise is our Goody Bags. We always deliver a super bag of treats at the end of the race, less leaflets and more delicious goodies is our motto!

Do runners take part in the event more than once?

Definitely! Lots of people return to run another future staging of the event. The runners enjoy the scenic route which takes them through the picturesque village of Thames Ditton, the historic Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames Marketplace, the iconic three mile stretch of the Barge Walk beside the Thames and of course, full views of Hampton Court Palace where Henry VIII is waiting to cheer them on.

Are there any areas of the event that you will be changing for 2020?

The 2019 staging of the event went very well and so we are not planning any major changes for 2020. However we continue to improve upon certain elements each year and we are working hard to make 2020 the best race day to date.

What would you say to a runner thinking of signing up for the 2020 event?

Great choice! It’s a very fast course and there are always lots of PB’s achieved. This is a super spring half you do not want to miss!
