Racecheck has teamed up with multi-award winning organisers aat-events to deliver what is expected to be the UK’s most sociable road running experience, the Guildford 10k on 13th October. The UKA-affiliated event has both 10km and 5km distances on offer along fully-closed roads. ENTER NOW.

Participants have the opportunity to meet and engage with other participants (through the Racecheck iOS app and on social media) from the moment they select 1 of 3 racecheck teams to join during online registration. Each participant then receives a free headwrap (buff) to wear on the day in their chosen racecheck team colour: #TeamTurquoise, #TeamOrange or #TeamPink. Find out more about the racecheck teams here.

Racecheck’s passionate community of athletes, #visorclub, have selected team leaders for each racecheck team to encourage camaraderie and support the runners taking part.

Whether runners want pre-race support with their training or mental preparation, or simply a friend on the day to run with across the finish line, the team leaders are rising to the challenge of supporting their team to make the Guildford 10k the ‘ultimate social experience’ further enhancing the #visorclub motto: #NeverRaceAlone.

There will be a live racecheck team leaderboard on the day; the team which crosses the line in the fastest collective time will be declared the winning team. The bar has been raised even further with the each member of the winning team receiving special offers, and the winning team leader receiving a year’s free racing with aat-events.

So, time to meet the team leaders!

#TeamOrange: Cat Johnson @runningmammacat

Cat Johnson

Profile:

Cat, 46 from Blackwood in South Wales, has been a #TeamBlack #visorclub member for the last 18 months. Mum of two boys aged 25 and 21, she explains: “My love for running started years ago but I never had the confidence to go any further than 10k. Since finding the running community, I’m now a marathon and ultra-marathon runner. I do love the running community; everyone is so supportive and friendly (especially in the #visorclub). Running for me is my sanity. Bad day .. go run… clears my head and puts things into perspective. I’m also a run leader, so love nothing more than sharing my love of running and encouraging people who have never run before to take it up, enjoy it and feel better physically and mentally. To watch new runners grow in confidence and hit goals they never thought possible, is the best feeling EVER!”

Team Leader Mantra:

I’m looking forward to meeting lots of runners I haven’t met before, finding out their reason to run, why they have signed up to the race and cheering them on. I’m also pacing the sub 60min, so hopefully have a few team orange with me to help get them the desired time on the course

Why Guildford 10K?

Guildford is a beautiful place, so it’ll be nice to travel down and race somewhere different (and possibly a bit flatter than the South Wales valleys!).

#TeamPink: Becs Hurst @becsj76

Profile:

Becs is from Bromley, South London, and has been a #visorclub member for just over a year. She explains: “I enjoy the freedom of being able to just go out and run. Trails are amazing as you get to see so many wonderful views. Also, the friends you make through running is great.”

Team Leader Mantra:

I feel excited to rally the troops to join team pink and be the best team at Guildford. I am rather competitive so will be good to have friendly banter with the other teams to see who will win.

Why Guildford 10K?

I signed up as I liked the thought of a team 10k with teams competing to get the best times.

#TeamTurquoise: Carmen To @sportygirl_85

Profile:

Carmen grew up and lives in London. She works as the Women’s Programme Coach for The Running Charity supporting young homeless people. Carmen has been a member of visorclub since November 2017. She explains: “I like run races between 5K and marathon distance. I’m still chasing that first ultra-marathon and aspire to complete a duathlon in the future. I also love pacing at parkrun and races. Running is great for improving physical and mental health. I love to see people in the running community supporting one another, regardless of what their goals are and how they got into running in the first place.”

Team Leader Mantra:

I’m excited to be heading up #TeamTurquoise against fellow team captains Becs and Cat. There will be some friendly competition of course but most importantly, I want to see as many runners encouraging each other and having a good time in the lead up and on the day of the event.

Why Guildford 10k?

I will be helping people achieve a 10K PB as one of the members of the pacing team. I’m also looking forward to participating in an event I haven’t tried before.

Sign up now for the Guildford 10k and pick your team! Hurry while early bird prices are still available. Please note that the there is also a 5k run on offer at the event too.
