Thailand has been a refreshing segment of our 4 month journey. After running around for 3 weeks straight, our bodies started to catch up with us so we took this time to relax and take a much needed break.

Bangkok

Our Thai adventures began in Bangkok where we started off strong with an incredible dinner at a Michelin rated restaurant, Canvas, to celebrate our 4 month anniversary. Unfortunately Rachel woke up sick the next morning so we ended up spending the next couple of days around the hotel recovering, and binging Sharp Objects on HBO.

By Rosh Hashana we decided to leave the hotel and attended a Seder (ceremonial meal) at the Chabad of Bangkok. It was a fun evening completely in Hebrew (we were the only Americans in a room of ~500 Israelis.) The head rabbi lead songs, encouraged everyone to stand on their chairs and sing, and led us through the typical blessings with touches of Thai-influence (we said blessings over a mango.)

Rosh Hashana at Chabad of Bangkok
A quick visit to the Erawan Shrine (our only real tourist activity)

Phuket

In Phuket, we were still in need of some good R&R so most of our time was spent rotating between the pool and the beach, with meals of pad Thai, pad see ew and curries in the small town. The water was warm and the sunsets were beautiful.

One highlight was a day trip we did to islands around Phuket where a guide took us in a raft through extremely narrow and shallow caves (we had to lay down to avoid hitting our heads) that opened up to beautiful craters within the island surrounded by wildlife (monkeys!) At night, we went back out on the raft to see plankton that glow in the dark (unfortunately the glow in the dark plankton didn’t photograph so you are going to have to trust us…)

Sunsets
Pad Thai, Mango Sticky Rice & Starbucks (matcha espresso latte!)
Miles of beautiful beaches
Rafting through sea caves
An offering to the sea gods and Thai massage chic
