A recap of the panel discussion, pitch competition and company demos for Building on the Lightning Network co-hosted by Radar and Blockchain Capital.

Our goal for this event was to facilitate in-person connections within the Lightning Network community and showcase the network’s development. If you’re interested in future events sign up for ION news to get notified.

Lightning App Pitch Competition

We selected five projects from the submissions we received and invited them to come out to San Fransisco to pitch in-person in front of a panel of Judges. Each project was scored on their product usability, business viability, and application of Lightning technology.

Judge favorite:

McFly is a Lightning-as-a-Service (LaaS) custodial wallet built by the Crypto Advance team.

Crowd favorite:

Paywall.link is the minimum viable product of a service that lets users easily generate a payment-protected link to their content. See more at: https://paywall.link/

Other pitch projects:

Shine Wallet is a non-custodial, web-based, LND & C-Lightning Lightning Wallet using Blockstack to authenticate login and store credentials.

Microlancer.io is a microtask freelancing platform, allowing anyone to get help or answers for even the smallest of tasks.

Suredbits allows you to monetize APIs with the Lightning Network, it aggregates market data feeds across cryptocurrency exchanges and offers them via a uniform market data API in real time.

Panel discussion: Building on Lightning

We invited Trey Griffith (Sparkswap), Valentine Wallace (Lightning Labs), Brandon Curtis (Radar), Joao Almeida (OpenNode), and Sergej Kotliar (Bitrefill)to discuss their experiences building on Lightning, moderated by Miles Suter (Square Cash App).

Hands-on demos

We invited five companies to set up demo stations for users to experience Lightning technology first hand. If you weren’t able to see their demonstrations live, check out each of these company’s website to try out their app.

Bitrefill — Bitrefill allows you to purchase gift cards or mobile refills from more than 1650 businesses in 170 countries with crypto.

Sparkswap — Sparkswap is the first cryptocurrency exchange built on Lightning Network atomic swaps. For the first time, it’s possible to make instant trades between blockchains while keeping custody of your assets.
