A Marketplace Of Skills

Our website went up last week and we are starting our push into social media through Facebook, Instagram and of course here on Medium. I’m sure many new entrepreneurs out there can relate to our position, as your business has the realization that networking is more than just socializing for the self-employed. It really is the best way to personally ensure our livelihood.

The desire for us to have an online presence was never a question, in fact it was always inherent to our business itself. Quite frankly, if we wanted to get paid for producing quality media, we needed a place to showcase our skills with an online portfolio. For other businesses to have confidence that our company could help promote their brand, we had to start featuring our own content online. But to be honest, we felt we weren’t ready to jump in right away. We wanted to do it right, with regularly scheduled posts to keep us on a track that would build a following, and with media that was created uniquely, using the brand image of ‘Radically Different.’

Maintaining a posting schedule is hard to do when you are trying to juggle it in addition to other work, so we wanted everything completely poised before we made the leap. We made a weekly structure of what and where we wanted to post each day, then began to build up a backlog of content. Having this repository of pictures and videos ready, that we know we want to post, alleviates some of the pressure of having to prepare something the day of. But it also affords us the flexibility to change the content when needed, adapting it to current news or trending stories.

Once we were ready to go, we also created and launched our own website. Although the social media platforms could have been sufficient, we felt having our own base to send potential clients was essential. We want to show our legitimacy as a company, but we also hope to grow the site into more than just a landing page for clients to find us. We want the company to become a group of creative people working together to assist an expanding client base, but also to produce their own content. I could see our site selling art of all kinds, or perhaps even streaming our own weekly online programs. It all starts with those first few posts, and those first few followers.

So, do you have your own marketplace?
