The Coconut Donut Dilemma
The language we use in our communication is so incredibly important — what you say might be different to what the other person hears, and vice versa. So get into the habit of paraphrasing.
I call this “drive-through” communication because it’s very similar to what we do when we order something at a drive-through window; we ask for something, and before we receive our order, the vendor makes sure they understand what we want by repeating what they thought they heard.
In this clip from a recent seminar on the Essentials of Project Scheduling, I demonstrate the dilemma that can easily occur without drive-through communication. Check it out, and don’t be caught in this Coconut Donut Dilemma!
