At Fat Toad Farm, they believe every step and ingredient in the process is worth the highest quality. Their caramel is made with goat’s milk from Vermont Creamery, who believe, “quality originates at the source — with the people who work the land and the pride they take in the yield.” Fat Toad Farm believes that goat’s milk is superior to cows milk due to the numerous health benefits.

“Quality originates at the source — with the people who work the land and the pride they take in the yield.”

The process is based on the Mexican confection, cajeta, which is a slowly thickened goat’s milk with a hint of sweetness. The goats milk is first combined with pure cane sugar and baking soda, then it is hand-stirred in traditional copper kettles for five hours resulting in a velvety caramel. The final product is known for their complex and not-too-sweet flavor profile among chefs and food lovers across the nation.

They currently have eight flavors, their original being the most popular. Other flavors include salted bourbon, vanilla bean, cold brew coffee, spicy dark chocolate, cinnamon, and holiday limited edition Irish whiskey cream. They collaborate with other hand-selected specialty brands such as Taza chocolate, Vermont Artisan Coffee & Tea CO, and Cold Hollow Cider Mill to create their numerous flavors. They encourage their caramels to be eaten in a variety of ways, such as drizzled over ice cream, coffee, cheese, or fresh fruit. Their site includes multiple recipes including the caramel, such as snacks like popcorn and caramelized nuts; libations like caramel irish cream; and sweets.

They have been showcased in numerous well-known publications such as the New York Times, The Boston Globe, and Saveur. In addition to their fame, they have been awarded countless awards such as the Good Food Award and Sofi (specialty food) Award.

Their caramel comes in a simple, clear jar, which immediately attracts you to it’s beautiful, rich caramel color. The label highlights an illustrated frog, and the typography is bold, all in all it has an overall traditional feel. Each variety of caramel contains the same packaging in different, natural colors.
